Dona Bertarelli was born in Rome, Italy, on March 3, 1968. She is the daughter of Maria Iris and Fabio Bertarelli. Dona and her brother, Ernesto, inherited the biotechnology company Serono, founded in 1906, which served as the foundation of the family's wealth. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Boston University's College of Communication.
Rise to Success
Dona Bertarelli was actively involved in Serono, the family business. From 1992 to 1997, she served as the Executive Director of Public and Professional Affairs, where she established the Serono Symposia and the Serono Foundation. The company was later sold to Merck KGaA in 2007. Following the sale of Serono, Dona has focused on her investments and philanthropic endeavors.
