Dmitry Yevgenyevich Rybolovlev was born on November 22, 1966, in Perm, Russia. His parents were medical doctors. He graduated from Perm Medical Institute in 1990 with a degree in cardiology.

Rybolovlev's business career began in the early 1990s. He became chairman of Uralkali, a Russian fertilizer producer, in 1995. Under his leadership, Uralkali became a major global player. In 2010, he sold his majority share in Uralkali for $6.5 billion.
