Early Life and Education
Dhruv Sawhney was born in June 1944. He graduated with a Master's degree in Mechanical Sciences from Emmanuel College, University of Cambridge, U.K., and obtained an MBA with distinction from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, U.S.A. He was on the Dean's list for all terms at Wharton, coming in second in the University.
Career and Rise to Success
Dhruv Sawhney's career has been marked by various leadership roles. He joined his uncle's engineering and sugar firm and turned it around. He eventually took charge of his father's sugar interests, merging the businesses into Triveni Engineering and Industries. He is currently the Chairman of the Triveni Group, which includes Triveni Turbine Ltd. and Triveni Engineering and Industries Ltd.. Sawhney was the President of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in 1991/92 when India started its economic liberalization program. He was also President of the All India Chess Federation for 12 years.

Philanthropy
Dhruv Sawhney chairs the Board of Trustees of North India's oldest charitable hospital. The hospital provides free and subsidized secondary care to the weaker sections of society.
