Early Life
Deniz Sahenk was born in 1945 in Turkey. Her life took a significant turn when she married Ayhan Şahenk, who founded the Doğuş Group in 1951. Ayhan Şahenk began with construction investments and grew the company into a major conglomerate.
Rise to Success
After her husband's passing in 2001, Deniz Sahenk inherited a significant stake in the Doğuş Group. The group has interests in finance, automotive, construction, media, tourism, and real estate.
Key Business Strategies
One of the most significant strategic moves by the Doğuş Group was the gradual sale of Garanti Bank, one of Turkey's largest private banks, to BBVA. This generated substantial capital, enabling the group to diversify into luxury hospitality, media (NTV), and restaurants (including DREAM, a majority shareholder of Nusr-Et Group - Salt Bae). The family has also focused on deleveraging by divesting luxury hotel assets globally.
Philanthropy
Deniz Sahenk is actively involved in philanthropy through the Ayhan Sahenk Foundation, which supports various educational, cultural, and environmental initiatives in Turkey.
