Daniel Truett Cathy was born on March 1, 1953, in Jonesboro, Georgia. He is the son of S. Truett Cathy, the founder of Chick-fil-A. Growing up in a family deeply involved in the restaurant business, Dan developed a strong work ethic and a passion for hospitality from an early age. In the late 1960s, Cathy began doing radio commercials for his father's original Dwarf House restaurant in Hapeville, Georgia, while attending local schools.
Rise to Success
Dan Cathy earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Georgia Southern University in 1975. After graduation, he began working full-time for Chick-fil-A, which had already been established as a franchise chain. Cathy started as director of operations before being promoted to chairman and CEO in 2013. He stepped down as CEO in 2021 but remained chairman of the board.
