Christine Knauf is an heir to the Knauf family, the founders of Knauf Gips KG, a multinational company based in Iphofen, Germany. The company was established in 1932 by brothers Alfons and Karl Knauf, who secured rights to gypsum deposits. The original gypsum factory is still in use today.
