Christian Wilhelm Erich Haub, known as Christian W.E. Haub, was born in Tacoma, Washington, U.S., in 1964, but spent his childhood in Germany. He is part of the Haub family, which has a long history in business. His father, Erivan Haub, was a successful entrepreneur and owner of the Tengelmann Group, a global retail conglomerate. Christian received an excellent education, which laid a strong foundation for his future leadership.

Christian Haub began his career by working in various roles within Tengelmann, learning the intricacies of the business from the ground up. He officially joined the family business in the late 1980s, focusing on modernizing its retail operations. He became the CEO of the Tengelmann Group. He is also the chairman and president of Emil Capital Partners. He also served as the CEO of the Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company (A&P) from 1991 to 2002.
