Early Life
Chen Yung-tai was born into a well-off family. However, after the death of his father in his youth, he started his entrepreneurial journey. He started his career selling office clocks in 1965.
Rise to Success
Chen expanded into office equipment, furniture, and electronics. The Aurora Group grew from his small clock-selling business, with its operations spreading across Taiwan and mainland China. Chen expanded into China after visiting the Pudong area in 1993, recognizing its potential. He also owns significant real estate, including a tower in Shanghai's Lujiazui financial district.
Key Business Strategies
Chen's core strategy was expanding the Aurora Group into various aspects of the office industry, from clocks to furniture and electronics. His ability to recognize and capitalize on the potential of the Chinese market early on was key to the success of the Aurora Group.
Philanthropy
In 2015, Chen launched the Goodwill Award (the Chuanshan award). This award honors eight organizations every year with a prize, supporting small- and medium-sized charities working in Taiwan. He also established the Chen-Yung Foundation.
