Early Life
Bruce Frederick Joseph Springsteen was born on September 23, 1949, in Long Branch, New Jersey. He spent his childhood in Freehold Borough. His father, Douglas Springsteen, worked various jobs, while his mother, Adele, was a legal secretary. Springsteen attended St. Rose of Lima Catholic School, where he often clashed with the nuns. He later attended Freehold Regional High School but did not fit in. At age 13, he got his first guitar.
Rise to Success
Inspired by The Beatles, Springsteen began performing in local venues. In 1972, he signed with Columbia Records and formed the E Street Band.
