Early Life
Brandt Channing Louie was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, on July 5, 1943. His grandfather, Hok Yat Louie, immigrated from China in 1896 and started a general store in Vancouver's Chinatown in 1903. Brandt earned a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of British Columbia (UBC) and became a Chartered Accountant.
Rise to Success
Louie joined his family's business, H.Y. Louie Co. Limited, in 1972, after practicing as a chartered accountant. He became Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of London Drugs in 1998. Under his leadership, London Drugs grew to become one of the largest drugstore chains in Canada.

Louie has been instrumental in expanding London Drugs and H.Y. Louie Co. Limited. He has emphasized customer service and innovation, including introducing one-hour photofinishing labs and computer departments in the stores. His company is known for its commitment to the community.
Philanthropy
Brandt Louie is known for his philanthropic work and has served as chair of the Simon Fraser University Board of Governors and as Chancellor. He is a strong supporter of the arts and culture and is involved with the Vancouver Art Gallery and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. He established the Tong and Geraldine Louie Family Foundation and the London Drugs Foundation.
