Bangur's grandfather, Mungee Ram Bangur, started the Bangur business empire in the late 19th century. The family business was later split into five groups in 1991. Benu Gopal Bangur gained control of Shree Cement, which his grandfather founded in 1979. Under his leadership, Shree Cement has become one of India's leading cement manufacturers.
