Early Life
Barry Zekelman was born and raised in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. He received his early education in Windsor and later attended York University in Toronto, Ontario. However, his university education was interrupted in 1986 due to the sudden passing of his father, Harry Zekelman. At that time, Barry and his brothers took over ownership of Atlas Tube Inc., the family's steel business.
Rise to Success
After assuming leadership, Barry Zekelman, with his brothers, transformed Atlas Tube. The company grew significantly under his leadership, increasing from a $1.5 million in revenue in 1986 to over $1.2 billion by 2006. In 2006, Atlas Tube was merged with John Maneely Company, later forming JMC Steel Group. The Zekelman family repurchased the company in 2011 and renamed it Zekelman Industries in 2016. Today, Zekelman Industries is the largest independent steel pipe and tube manufacturer in North America, with revenues exceeding $2.7 billion annually.
