Axel Stawski was born in November 1950 in Frankfurt, Germany. His parents, Moniek and Zosia Stawski, were Jewish Holocaust survivors. The family emigrated to the United States in 1971. Stawski's educational background includes a bachelor's degree from the University of Birmingham in England and a PhD in international law from New York University.
