Early Life
Athanasios Martinos was born in Athens in February 1950. He holds a BSc in Economics from Athens University (1974) and studied shipping at City College of London. Martinos began his career in 1971 at Thenamaris Ships Management, the family-owned shipping company founded by his mother.
Rise to Success
Martinos co-managed Thenamaris until 1990. In 1991, he established Eastern Mediterranean Maritime (EastMed). The company manages 74 tankers, dry bulk carriers, and container vessels. He is also a major investor in real estate, holding properties in London and Geneva. In 2024, Forbes listed his net worth at $1.8 billion.
