Anthony Pratt was born in Melbourne, Australia, on April 11, 1960, to Richard Pratt and Jeanne Pratt. He attended Mount Scopus Memorial College and graduated from Monash University in 1982 with a Bachelor of Economics (Hons).

Pratt began his career at McKinsey & Company before joining his family's business, Visy Industries. He moved to the United States in 1991 to lead Pratt Industries' expansion, where he grew the company significantly. Under his leadership, Pratt Industries became the largest privately-held packaging and paper company in the U.S. and the world.
