Angela Leong On Kei was born in Guangzhou, China, on March 23, 1960. Her family roots are in Sanshui, Guangdong. She grew up in a modest household, facing financial challenges early in her life. Leong's journey began with a dance career before she ventured into the business world.
Rise to Success
Leong's career took a pivotal turn when she met Stanley Ho in 1986, a Macau casino tycoon. She became his fourth partner. Leong began investing in real estate, accumulating a significant portfolio in Hong Kong, Macau, and major cities in China. She entered electoral politics in 2005, supported by Stanley Ho, to represent casino interests. She founded the Macau Sanshui Communal Association to support new immigrants, demonstrating her commitment to social services. She became the managing director of Sociedade de Jogos de Macau in December 2010.
Key Business Strategies
Leong's business strategies focused on expanding her real estate holdings and building influence within Macau's casino industry. Her investments included the formation of L'Avenue, a holding company managing various properties, including buildings in Hong Kong and the luxurious L'Arc Macau hotel. Leong is the largest individual shareholder of SJM Holdings, with 12% of the company's shares. SJM Holdings operates 13 casinos in Macau.
Philanthropy
Leong is also involved with the Po Leung Kuk, an organization focused on education and social welfare. She served as chairman, ensuring children are raised in a safe and loving environment.
