Early Life
Andrei Rappoport was born in Nova Kakhovka, Ukraine, in 1963. He graduated from Donetsk State University with a degree in economics in 1989. While in university, he participated in a student exchange program at Santa Clara University in the USA. Rappoport later earned a Ph.D. in Sociology in 1997.
Rise to Success
Rappoport began his career in management consulting in Ukraine in 1989. In 1991, he co-founded Alfa-Bank and served as its first CEO until 1996. He then held positions such as First Vice President for Economics and Finance of Yukos-Rosprom from 1997 to 1998. From 1998 to 2004, he was the Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of OAO RAO UES. After leaving RAO UES, Rappoport invested in Georgian Global Utilities and later sold his share.
Key Business Strategies
Rappoport is currently an investor in over 50 private equity and venture capital funds, and a number of technology companies mainly in the US and European markets. From 1999 to 2009, he founded and headed the Board of Directors of Inter RAO UES JSC, specializing in international energy trading. He has also been involved in the acquisition, financing, and development of various companies.
Philanthropy
Andrei and Irina Rappoport have supported numerous social, healthcare, arts, and educational developments. They co-founded the FAIR Charitable Foundation, which focuses on science, education, healthcare, and arts. From 1996 until 2022, he served on the Board of Directors and was a sponsor of the Russian Jewish Congress. Rappoport has made donations to the Moscow School of Management Skolkovo.
