Early Life and Education
Andrei Kosogov was born on March 15, 1961, in Sillamäe, Estonia (then part of the Soviet Union). He graduated from the Moscow Power Engineering Institute in 1987 with a degree in thermal physics. He also holds an MBA from Harvard Business School. Kosogov's early career involved working in a small research and production enterprise at MPEI.
Rise to Success
Kosogov's career took a significant turn in 1992 when he joined Alfa Group. He oversaw the establishment of a privatization investment fund. From 1999 to 2005, he served as the First Deputy Chairman of Alfa-Bank, heading its investment block. He played a key role in the growth and success of Alfa Group Consortium and its subsidiaries.
Key Business Strategies
His key business strategies involved managing Alfa Capital and investment divisions, and co-founding LetterOne in 2013. Through LetterOne, he invested in oil and gas, cellular companies, and retail. He also oversaw the expansion of VimpelCom into one of the world's largest integrated telecommunications companies.
Philanthropy
Kosogov is actively involved in private philanthropy, including supporting a hospital for children with cerebral palsy since 1996 and programs for elderly scientists. He received Russia's Medal of Honour for his charitable work.
