Early Life and Education
Andrei Nikolaevich Kosogov was born on March 15, 1961, in Sillamäe, Estonian SSR. In 1987, he graduated magna cum laude from the Moscow Power Engineering Institute (MPEI) with a degree in thermal physics. During his time at MPEI, he was recognized as a Lenin Scholar for academic excellence. He later earned an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Rise to Success
Kosogov began his career in the early 1990s, joining Alfa Group. He became a co-founder and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Alfa-Capital in 1992. He held senior roles at Alfa-Bank, including First Deputy Chairman of the Board from 1998 to 2005, where he oversaw investment divisions. In 2003, he founded AlfaStrakhovanie (Alfa Insurance) and became Chairman of its Board of Directors. In 2022, Kosogov became the largest shareholder of Alfa-Bank, with a 41% stake. He is also a co-founder of LetterOne, an international investment firm.
