Early Life
Andrei Vasilievich Filatov was born on December 18, 1971, in Kryvyi Rih, Ukrainian SSR, Soviet Union. He was a candidate for Master of Sport of the USSR in chess. Filatov graduated from the Belarusian State University of Physical Culture with a degree in Sport Instruction and Chess Coaching in 1993. During his university years, he befriended chess grandmasters Ilya Smirin and Boris Gelfand.
Rise to Success
Filatov's entrepreneurial journey began in 1996 when he co-founded Severstaltrans with Konstantin Nikolaev and Nikita Mishin. The company was later renamed N-Trans. Filatov's main asset is the Tuloma investment company. He is also a co-owner of Globaltrans and has stakes in the energy sector. Filatov's net worth was estimated at $1.3 billion in 2012. In 2015, Filatov consolidated his assets into the Tuloma Investment Company.

Filatov's business strategy has involved strategic investments in transportation and infrastructure, particularly in railway and port operations. The trio co-founded Severstaltrans which later became Globaltrans. In 2011, they took public Global Ports Investments.
