Anatoly Sedykh was born on November 28, 1964, in the Murmansk region of Russia. He graduated from the Moscow Institute of Steel and Alloys with a degree in engineering and economics. Early in his career, he worked as an economist at the Central Research Institute for Ferrous Metallurgy. In 1989, Sedykh started a joint venture in scrap-metal recycling.

This acquisition became the foundation for the United Metallurgical Company (OMK). He served as the Chairman and CEO of OMK, leading the company to become a major player in the global steel market.
