Anand Ashok Chand Burman was born in Kolkata, India, in 1952, into a Punjabi Khatri business family. His father, Ashok Chand Burman, was the chairman emeritus of Dabur. Anand completed his initial schooling at St. Paul's School in Darjeeling. He then pursued higher education in the United States, earning a bachelor's degree in chemistry from the University of Wisconsin and a master's degree and a doctorate in pharmaceutical chemistry from the University of Kansas.

Anand Burman's career with Dabur began in 1980 when he joined as a manager in the research and development department. He became a board member in 1986 and was appointed chairman in 2007.
