Early Life and Education
Alexander Frank Beard was born on August 3, 1967, in Gravesend, Kent, England. He attended Gravesend Grammar School for Boys and later pursued a degree in Biochemistry at Christ Church, Oxford University, graduating with an MA.
Rise to Success
Beard began his career as an oil trader at BP from 1990 to 1994. In 1995, he joined Glencore, where he ascended through the ranks to become CEO of Glencore's worldwide oil department in 2007. During his tenure, he oversaw the expansion of Glencore's global oil trading operations, including the establishment of the RussNeft joint venture and investments in shipping, refining, and storage assets. He retired from Glencore in 2019 after 24 years.

Beard's key strategies involved expanding Glencore's global presence in oil trading. He also focused on establishing strategic partnerships and investments in various sectors of the energy industry.
