Early Life
Alan Howard was born in England in 1964 or 1965, to a Jewish family. He attended Hasmonean Grammar School in Hendon, London, and later graduated from Imperial College London with a master's degree in engineering.
Rise to Success
Howard began his financial career at Salomon Brothers, working in the ECU eurobond market. He co-founded Brevan Howard Asset Management LLP in 2002, which quickly became one of the world's largest macro hedge funds. He was named in Bloomberg's 50 Most Influential People Who Changed Global Business in 2020. In 2013, Forbes listed him as one of the 40 highest-earning hedge fund managers. In 2019, he stepped down as CEO of Brevan Howard to focus solely on investing.

Howard's investment decisions are based primarily on the overall economic and political views of various countries or their macroeconomic principles. His fund takes long and short positions in equity, fixed income, currency, commodities, and futures markets. He also correctly predicted interest rate and currency movements during the run-up to 2007 and 2008. His focus is on macro trading strategies.
Philanthropy
Howard founded the Alan Howard Charitable Foundation, which contributed to charities focusing on Israel, Holocaust education, and the homeless. He continues to support homeless charities. In 2014, he started The Alan Howard Foundation/JW3 Speaker Series, which raises money for the JW3 center in London.
