Early Life
Akira Mori was born in July 1936, in Kyoto, Japan, into a family already involved in real estate. His father, Taikichiro Mori, founded Mori Building Company in 1959. Akira attended Keio University, graduating in 1960. In the same year, he started his career with Yasuda Trust & Banking. He formally joined Mori Building in 1972, gaining experience in the family business.
Rise to Success
In 1993, Akira Mori inherited the family business with his brother Minoru Mori, following their father's death. However, in 1999, the brothers split the business due to disagreements. Akira Mori then headed Mori Trust, while Minoru Mori led the remaining Mori Building. Mori Trust has since become a major real estate developer in Tokyo, owning and managing numerous properties. Under Akira's leadership, Mori Trust has expanded its real estate holdings both in Japan and internationally. Miwako Date, his daughter, is currently the president and CEO of Mori Trust, continuing the family's legacy.
