Agustín Coppel Luken was born in Culiacán, Sinaloa, Mexico, in 1961. He earned a degree in Marketing from the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey.

Agustín Coppel Luken serves as the Chairman and CEO of Grupo Coppel, a retail and banking giant. The Coppel family owns 100% of the company, which has its origins in 1941. Under his leadership, Grupo Coppel has expanded significantly. In 2024, the group announced plans to invest significantly in store renovations, sustainability efforts, and new store openings. Forbes recognized his achievements and leadership by awarding him the Business Excellence Award in 2020.

Coppel's key strategy has been providing credit to a wide range of customers, enabling purchases through weekly installments. The company's retail chain has expanded throughout Mexico, with approximately 1,980 stores as of 2025. Coppel has also expanded into financial services through BanCoppel.
