Early Life and Education
Marcel Herrmann Telles was born on February 23, 1950, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He grew up in a middle-class family. His father worked as a pilot and his mother was a homemaker. Telles attended Colégio Santo Inácio, a Jesuit school. He earned a bachelor's degree in economics from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and later attended Harvard College.
Rise to Success
Telles began his professional career in finance in 1972, joining Banco Garantia. He rapidly advanced, becoming a partner at Garantia Merchant Bank in 1974. He served as Head Trader from 1974 to 1989. Telles, along with Jorge Paulo Lemann and Carlos Alberto Sicupira, formed a powerful investment trio, and in 1989, Telles was appointed CEO of Companhia Cervejaria Brahma SA. Under his leadership, Brahma focused on efficiency and market dominance. Telles played a pivotal role in the merger between Brahma and Antarctica, creating AmBev in 2000.
