Early Life
Bruce Stanley Kovner was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1945. Growing up in a Jewish family, he excelled in academics from a young age. Kovner was the student body president of Van Nuys High School and displayed talent in basketball and piano. He attended Harvard University on a scholarship, where he studied government and economics.
Rise to Success
Kovner's career began in 1977 when he started trading soybean futures with a $3,000 loan. He then worked at Commodities Corporation under Michael Marcus, where he honed his trading skills. In 1983, Kovner founded Caxton Associates, which grew to become a prominent global macro hedge fund. Caxton's success was built on analyzing worldwide economic trends and disciplined risk management. Over 28 years, the fund delivered an average annual return of approximately 21%. Kovner retired from Caxton in 2011. Since 2012, he has chaired CAM Capital, managing his investment and business activities.
