Early Life and Education
Antonio Gracias was born in Detroit, Michigan, and grew up in Grand Rapids. He attended Georgetown University, where he earned a joint degree (BSFS and MSFS) in the Walsh School of Foreign Service, with a concentration in international economics. He also studied abroad at Waseda University in Tokyo, Japan, and later attended the University of Chicago Law School, graduating with a J.D. in 1998.
Rise to Success
Gracias began his career in finance and law before founding MG Capital, a private equity firm, while in law school. The core team of MG Capital formed the basis for Valor Equity Partners, founded in 1995. Valor's investment strategy focuses on identifying and supporting companies transforming their industries. He met Elon Musk around 2000, and Valor became an early investor in Tesla in 2005 and SpaceX in 2008. Gracias served on the board of Tesla from 2007 to 2021, including eight years as Lead Independent Director. His hands-on approach and investments in Musk's ventures have been key to his success. Forbes estimates his net worth at $2.4 billion as of late 2025.
